In July 2006, both organisers of the two hemp fairs in Spain (Expocannabis Madrid and Highlife Barcelona) announced their plans to organise the next edition of their fair on the same date, 19-21 January 2007. ENCOD made an effort to mediate between the fairs and make them coordinate their agendas. Finally it was agreed that the fairs would take place on different dates, but a definitive solution has yet to be found.
The European Coalition for Just and Effective Drug Policies herewith condemns the police razzia against the Czech tek event (a free techno party) held in the Tachov region, Czech Republic on 30 July and calls upon all European citizens to raise their voice against the criminalisation of dance events in general.
Following pressure from the US government, Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna has written a fax in which he assures that UNODC will continue to be opposed to the concept of harm reduction.
