United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa arranged a study visit to Amsterdam on 24 April, during which he visited coffeeshop De Dampkring (the Atmosphere) and a user room (for inhalation and injection of heroin and cocaine), accompanied by two or three collaborators from UNODC, and high officials of the Netherlands Ministry of Health and of the City of Amsterdam.

Statement to the Civil Society Forum on Drug Policy – 20/21 May 2008
On July 7 to 9 in Vienna, Austria, ENCOD will participate in the “
Beyond 2008
” NGO Forum. This forum is meant to collect the points of views of NGOs regarding the outcome and the direction of global drug policies. The NGO Forum is supposed to produce a statement that will be included in the process of reflection that governments and UN agencies are in, and that will conclude at next year’s annual meeting of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna (March 2009)
As ENCOD we would like the following issues to be part of the definitive statement for the NGO Forum in Vienna. Please comment them by replying to this article or join the discussion on this issue at the ENCOD forum.

On 14 April 2008, the deadline expired for presenting applications to the call for proposals for the budget line on Drug Prevention and Information, which was established to support the role of civil society organisations in EU drug policy. ENCOD has decided not to apply to this call for proposals. In the following statement, we explain why.
